“And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” 1 John 5:15
Being ignored is a terrible feeling. You send out a text message asking a question. Silence. You leave a voicemail message asking someone to return your call. Silence. You send an e-mail with important details. Silence.
You analyze the situation trying to understand why your message…your request was met with silence. Did the person get busy? Did the person forget? Are they upset? Or worse yet is your communication just not important to them?
Silence can hurt. It can make us feel ignored, disrespected and unseen. It’s as if our words, which are precious to us, have gone into a dark, vast space with no place to land. Communication is broken, trust is damaged and relationships are hurt.
We do not have to fear silence with God. We do not have to worry that God will ignore us when we pray to him. He hears our joys, our pleas, our thanksgivings and our cries. Scripture tells us that he can even understand our moanings.
God never ignores our cries because he loves us. God values us because we are his beautiful creation. God communicates with us because he wants to be in relationship with us.
